Bute Fabrics
Bute Fabrics is a Scottish weaving mill based on the Isle of Bute, established in 1947 by the 5th Marquess of Bute to employ returning servicemen. Nestled in a repurposed convent, the mill is celebrated for its richly textured wool, alpaca, linen and silk upholstery and curtain fabrics. Combining traditional hand-loomed artistry with modern technical standards, Bute offers durable, high-performance textiles - from boucles and tweeds to fine sheers - carefully tested in its in-house laboratory. Its distinctive colour palettes and tactile finishes reflect the island's landscapes, earning acclaim from luxury names like Dior, Balenciaga, Tom Dixon and Drake's of London. Today a compact team continues to blend heritage craftsmanship with innovation, producing fabrics for interiors, contract use, and fashion, and sustaining a proud legacy of Scottish textile excellence.
